| (Originally posted June 2, 2001)--Here's our latest news--most likely this will be the last diary entry until the twins are born. That's because we learned yesterday that our doctor will induce labor on Wednesday, June 6 if the twins haven't arrived before then.
During yesterday's doctor's visit, Diane's initial blood pressure reading was once again high and that coupled with the fact that the doctor felt that Diane looked swollen in the face, led her to decide that next Wednesday will be the latest she'll let her go.
The doctor also measured Diane's cervix and she's now 2 cm dilated and 70% effaced. Although she still hasn't had any contractions, we know that sometimes women do start going into labor after having their cervixes measured late in the pregnancy so we know there's always the chance Diane could begin labor before Wednesday.
If we make it to Wednesday we'll be right at 37 weeks, which is full-term for twins. Between now and then, Diane is on full bed-rest. The official recommendation from her doctor was to lay in bed, watch movies and eat bon bons.
So by this time next week we will be able to share with you the news of our new twins! It looks like our twins will be born under the sign of Gemini ("The Twins"), meaning that they will be bright, creative and quick-witted!
We aren't aware of any famous multiples-related events happening on June 6 but do have three sets of twins born on that day in the twinstuff database, the Smith Twins of Tennessee (born June 6, 1999), the Blanchard Twins of Ohio (born June 6, 1965), and the O'Hara Twins of Canada (born June 6, 1956).
Please check our diary entry next week for the birth announcements and details!
